Students stand beside their seats and you roll a die. Each time you roll it, students add the value to their running score. At any point, students can sit down. If the die lands on 2, the students still standing lose all of their points. The seated student with the highest score wins.
Learn the lyrics to an old song. If this takes too much time, learn some of them now and some of them later.
Brainstorm ideas for class projects.
Share weekend or holiday plans.
Tell jokes.
Practice spelling words.
Play 20 Questions. Think of an object, and students can ask 20 yes-or-no questions to help them guess what it is.
Ask each student to name three things they've learned today/this week.
