Whisper the name of a song to a student, who then has to produce that song with a series of 'la's. Example songs:
  • Old MacDonald
  • We wish you a merry christmas
  • Hakuna Matata
  • Yankee Doodle
Students prepare their own version of "Who wants to be a millionare". Use your spare five minutes to write a question and four options, then play the game when you next have a chunk of spare time.
Gives the students one noun. They write this at the top of a sheet of paper, then have to think of another noun that starts with the letter the previous one ends with. Continue for as much time as you have, the student with the most amount of different words wins.
Students keep a journal of what they learn each day.
Play Wheel of Fortune, rolling a dice instead fo a wheel. Teams with a successful guess at a letter (drawn on the board, hangman style) win the die's score. Vowels cost 5 points.
Pair the students. One student is given a simple photograph and has to describe it to the other student who, without seeing the photograph himself, must draw a picture based on what is being described.
Find a word likely to be unfamiliar to everyone. Tell it to the students and get them to write down what they think it might mean. At the end of the day, or the end of the lesson, read out a list of definitions (include the real one in there somewhere) and have the students vote on which they think is the most likely.
Play team-based hangman with a headline taken from a recent newspaper article. The losing team has to read and explain the contents of the news article to the other team(s)
