Literacy activitiesRead a given text. Find as many synonyms and/or antonyms as possible Pull a long word from the dictionary, then see how many other words can be made from it. Start a sentence like "The minster's cat is.." and each student in a circle has to think up an adjective starting with the next letter in the alphabet, ie Angry, Bashful, Curious. Thinking of a totally mundane event, give students one minute to think up a sensationalist newspaper headline for it. Practice spelling words. Read a poem, but have the students ad-lib the last word for each line. Tell the first few sentences of a story, then ask each student to add a sentence. The last student should complete the story. Provide new endings to old proverbs.
"An apple a day.."
"The early bird.."
"A bird in the hand.."
"Too many cooks.." |
